An admiralty and maritime attorney with more than 30 years experience and the co-author of “Crew Claims in the United States” currently in its sixth edition, Houck addressed issues such as recent developments in arbitration, the “featherweight burden” of showing causation in Jones Act negligence actions, US governmental set-asides and the ship-owner’s duty to provide maintenance and medical cures for ailments and injuries suffered while in ship’s service and the responsibilities of crew employers as they relate to infectious diseases.
“The seminar gave the London market and P&I Clubs up to date information on emerging legal issues and tactical trends concerning claims by crew members under US law” Houck said. “The burdens on ship owners and employers in this critical area of operations are becoming more complex.”
