Miami, FL, October 31, 2011 – Andrew ‘Andy’ Anderson, a Shareholder at Houck Anderson P.A. participated as a panelist at the 2011 International Superyacht Society YachtInfo Seminar & Captain’s Briefing on the topic “Foreign Flag Yachts Entering, Cruising & Chartering in U.S. Waters…What You Need to Know!”, which was held October 28, 2011 during the 52nd Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
The session attracted tremendous interest with attendees comprising of large yacht captains, yacht brokers and charter brokers who were keen to understand the intricacies of admiralty, maritime law and United States law that regulate foreign flagged vessel activities in U.S. waters.
Mr. Anderson said, “The level of interest in this subject is not surprising to me given the desire of the recreational marine industry to market the U.S., not only as a major large yacht builder and the premier repair and refit destination globally, but also as a viable cruising destination. I’m regularly asked for my professional opinion on this topic as an admiralty and maritime attorney, and with so many foreign flagged vessels operating in U.S. waters it is essential that understand and adhere to the laws and regulatory requirements.”
Other panelist who participated in the session included Corey Ranslem, of Secure Waters a security and maritime consulting firm; Rob Carron from Marsh Private Client Services a personal insurance and risk management company and Steele Reeder of Howard S. Reeder, Inc. a U.S. customs brokerage.
